Mars Base Sara Campaign

The following campaign is based around Robotech episode 7 'Bye-Bye Mars'.  On its return voyage to earth, the SDF-1 lands near Mars Base Sara and begins to replenish its supplies from what is left at the abandoned base.  Little do they know, that Zentraedi Captain Khyron is waiting in ambush.  He has secretly deployed gravity mines below the fortress to prevent it from taking off, allowing his army to attack the space fortress in an attempt to capture it intact. Defending the SDF-1 are a couple companies of Tomahawks, Spartans, a few MkII Monsters and Valkyrie squadrons.  The defenders of the SDF-1 must buy time so that the base's reflex furnace can be detonated by Lt. Commander Hayes and the gravity mines destroyed.

The campaign is composed of 3 battles:

Scenario 1: 'Now kill Them!'  (5 CVPs)
Scenario 2: 'Send out a retreat order!' (10 CVPs)
Scenario 3: 'Pick up Lt. Hayes.' (15 CVPs)

The outcome of each battle will influence the one after. The winner of each scenario is granted a number of Campaign Victory Points or CVPs.  At the end of the campaign, the player with the highest total of Campaign Victory Points wins (the SDF-1 escapes Mars or is captured by Khryon).

The campaign can be played with 150, 300 or 450 points per side.

Example Forces:

UEDF (300 pts):

  • Armored Squadron of 4 Tomahawks with Command destroid upgrade
  • Brawler Squadron of 4 Spartans
  • Valkyrie Squadron with Rick Hunter
    • VF-1S with Roy Fokker
Zentraedi (295 pts):
  • Recon Squadron with Grell upgrade and Gluuhaug-Regult Squad

  • Artillery Squadron with Regult squad upgrade
Swarms of Battle Pods advance to secure the downed Zentraedi Officer Pod.

Scenario 1: 'Now Kill Them!'

With the SDF-1 trapped by Khyron's gravity mines, the maniacal Zentraedi Captain orders the attack to begin.  As swarms of Zentraedi battle pods enter the SDF-1 perimeter red zone, the 6th, 8th and 18th squadrons stand in their way.

Scenario 2: 'Send out a retreat order!'

With the outer defenses over run by Khryon's legions and the SDF-1 trapped by gravity mines, Captain Gloval comes up with a daring plan to detonate the bases reflex furnace and destroy the mines.  Lt. Commander Hayes desperately makes her way to the furnace control room while Gloval has given the order for UEDF mecha to retreat but first they must lure the enemy onto the base.

Khyron, unaware of the impending explosion, believes the SDF-1 forces to be fleeing the base and throws everything he can at the retreating earth mecha in an attempt to finish them off.

Scenario: 'Pick up Lt. Hayes.'

Khyron's forces have advanced deep onto Mars Base Sara and are closing in on the SDF-1.  Fortunately for the Earth defenders, Lt. Commander Lisa Hayes has set the base's reflex furnace to detonate.  The resulting explosion should not only knock out the gravity mines which keep the SDF-1 from taking off, but also destroy the remainder of Khyrons 7th Mechanized Division.  Unfortunately for the Zentraedi, they have no idea of the impending explosion.

But there is one problem, Commander Hayes is trapped in the room of her lost love Karl Riber, and can't make it back to the SDF-1 on her own.  Captain Gloval has dispatched Skull Squadron to rescue her.  If Lisa can be captured by the Zentraedi, she could provide much needed intelligence about the capabilities of the SDF-1.  Can Sergeant Rick Hunter find Lisa in time?  The clock is now ticking.

  Scenario Details:

  • Recovery
    • Prized Object: Lt. Commander Hayes
    • UEDF Restrictons:
      • Valkyrie Core Squadrons only
      • Valkyries including VF-S1s may be chosen for support.
      • Max, Myria or Ben Dixon may not be selected
      • Rick Hunter must be chosen as a character
    • Zentradi Restrictions:
      • Only Khyron, Grell, or Pirion-Galarr may be chosen as characters
      • Attack, Recon, Attrition or Artillery Core Squadrons only
      • Only Recon, Regult, Glaug and Artillery squads for support
  • Head to Head Deployment
  • Battlefield:  The entire battlefield should contain buildings from Base Sara.  (see Mars Base Sara Build)
  • End Game:   At the end of Turn 6, the base's reactor will detonate.  The side in possession of Lisa Hayes at that time will be declared the winner and be awarded 15 CVPs.  If Lisa is not found, then no points are awarded to either side and my beautiful Lisa is lost forever. :(

Campaign Results:
At this time you should total up the Campaign Victory Points awarded during the campaign.  The side with the highest number of points wins (See results below).

Victory - Khryon:  The Zentraedi have managed to inflict crippling losses on the SDF-1 preventing them from resupplying at Mars Base Sara.  The next attack on their space fortress will be their last.

Victory - SDF-1:  The crew has managed to resupply and avoid heavy casualties.  In doing so an entire division of enemy pods has been destroyed.

Tie:  Despite heavy losses on both sides, Khryon's division and the crew of the SDF-1 have survived to fight another day.

'I hate to lose a fight!'
